AEROSPACE GROUND EQUIPMENT
26th AGE maintained aerospace ground equipment to support aircraft systems or subsystems, and tactical air control systems (TACS). The unit managed all AGE functions and activities.
MD-3 Generator Set
All aircraft require some type of ground support in order to perform maintenance and servicing of the aircraft. The Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Mechanic, used typical ground support equipment, the principles of electronics, refrigeration, hydraulics, power generation, reciprocating engines (gasoline and diesel), gas turbine engines, pneumatics and heating.
MJ-1 Lift Truck
Duties involved servicing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on motor and engine driven generator sets, air conditioners, hydraulic test stands, air compressors, bomblifts, heaters, and other similar support equipment.
Clark Tug
Along with maintaining this support equipment, AGE mechanics and drivers were required to clean, inspect, and service AGE towing vehicles and provide dispatch and tow service to position equipment for use on the aircraft parking ramps and hangers to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations. Two-way radios were utilized for communication between the AGE operations area and the designated aircraft.
